Re: Low power video card

I have a bunch of these, haven't measured them though: https://www.ebay.com/itm/NVIDIA-Quadro-FX-380-256-MB-GDDR3-PCIe-x16-Video-Graphics-Card-2-DVI-Ports/124509912128?hash=item1cfd5e7c40%3Ag%3AIVkAAOSwWUJf7t-a&LH_ItemCondition=3000 TDP is 34 watts. Eh, too high. Maybe try NVIDIA Quadro NVS 285 ...

Re: 28 thread Haswell Xeon issue

So far the system is 100% stable under Windows. I do have a lingering problem though, same as Howdy mentioned in another thread (probably the PSU). If I power down the system, I have to let it sit for 10 minutes or so (PSU switched off), before it will power back up. I suspect (just a hunch), that i...

F@H Challenge thread, 2021

There has been some discussion of [H] vs TAAT in a Folding@Home competition. Some time early this year? Mid January to Mid February, all of February?

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions? @biodoc @Coleslaw

Maybe we could just pit [H] against Markfw, and Pokey? :D

28 thread Haswell Xeon issue

Some of you remember I posted somewhere a few thousand pages ago/a few days ago, that I had a failure of my AIO liquid cooler, and had temporarily allowed gravity to hold an AMD Wraith cooler in place until I got a replacement. The temporary solution, and the $20 delivered permanent solution both br...

Lucky me...

Or maybe, Brave me? Anyway, I have had some luck of late, and wanted to share the news. In the USA, the CARES Act allows you to withdraw up to $100,000 out of your 401k, if your paycheck has in anyway been affected by the pandemic. You have until December 31st 2020 to do this, if your plan is partic...

The suspended portion came crashing down after a small earthquake in a nearby area, on the 1st of Dec, I think. :(

USA for the most part, sorry...

I mentioned in the SCC on the main site, a reminder/notification to my US citizens, that the CARES-ACT allowed you to draw from your 401k retirement fund, up to 100k $$$ this year, without penalty (standard income tax applies). I took advantage of this, paid off some loans, credit card, etc. Then I ...

I always power down, flip the switch on the PSU, unplug the PSU, hit the power button a few times, wait one minute, and then swap cards. Except for those times when I just power down.

Re: Quarantine@home (not a boinc project)

I noticed mine had quit as well. I was REALLY nervous putting it on Windows, but for Linux I could see all the commands and such, and I felt a little better as everything looked like genuine repositories and such.

Re: Quarantine@home (not a boinc project)

GTX1070 and Linux is a wee bit faster. :) Looks to be about 13 seconds per task, but the average time is still dropping, as the 4 Windows tasks' longer run times have yet to be 'absorbed' for a lack of a proper term. :)

Thanks. Totally sucks on Windows, lol. 347 seconds on a 2080Ti. Barely used 30% of GPU, core clock barely hit 600, mem clock barely moved.

Stefan is referring to the method of suspending the project, and enabling networking, then turning networking off again.

Risky business, that method.

Re: Amicable numbers, 10*21, GPU

Thanks, Skillz. Nvidia-smi just gives an instantaneous 'snap-shot', correct? I used it for Collatz, and got 94%. Good to know we no longer have to do a bunch of hoop jumping to get max results. Bad to know the next set of numbers will cripple the current gen of GPUs. :)

This may now be outdated, but for now, see this: https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/about-collatz-conjecture.2504696/ Wow, there are tons of info in that thread, but it may be dated. I'll run some quick tests to see if there are any major changes. It appears you need to optimize the task's kernel ...

Amicable numbers, 10*21, GPU

I am thinking ahead to a Sprint or the Pentathlon. So I may be posting some ramblings about various projects. Nothing Earth shattering, just results, thoughts, and anything I may have learned. Amicable GPU is a tough cookie. The older 10*20 app, people were running up to 16 tasks at a time to get th...
