Re: Hardware RIP Thread
Just the CPU, though the radiator is fairly large. It's the same setup that I did a little build thread on back on AT, I think you saw it. Seems to be humming along nicely, and I like that it is PWM. Maybe that will help the pump last longer, since it can run closer to 60% most of the time instead o...

Re: Hardware RIP Thread
I actually ended up with this instead:

I'll update when it gets installed.

Re: Hardware RIP Thread
Thanks for recounting your experiences. I have a feeling I will end up with a D5 pump eventually, but this time around I took the easy way out and ordered another of the same, so that I don't have to worry about modifying the loop. Right now, as busy as things are, it will be tough enough just to be...

Re: Hardware RIP Thread
So now the pump on my fairly new water cooling setup is going bad, making lots of ugly noises. Not sure if I will be able to fix it in time for the Sprint. Also not sure what to replace it with. It didn't last very long, purchased in Feb 2019.

FOUND: Motherboard With 2 PCIe x16 Slots
Hey guys, I need a mobo with at least 2 PCIe x16 slots that are well spaced, and that has integrated graphics. I accidentally bought a board from China and am assuming it's never going to arrive. Prefer LGA 1155 or LGA 1150 because I have CPUs and RAM for those apps, but in a pinch, an older LGA 201...

Man, that is tempting. I just bought a 750W a few days ago, though. Wish you'd listed this sooner! If it's still for sale in August, I will buy it.

Re: Hardware RIP Thread
One of my 1070's bit the dust. All computation errors no matter the project. Looking for a replacement, anyone have something same or similar to sell?

That sounds cool, I wish I had any skill I could lend, but if it doesn't involve welding, sanding, or painting, I'm not good for much.

Re: To Hell in a hand basket
It's just inconvenient for it to happen in the middle of a contest! In my case that is the way it always goes!! Then again, mine are usually self inflicted issues. Yeah, well, I think the socket going bad in the original dual CPU rig might have been self-inflicted. I was doing some GPU swaps on it ...

Re: To Hell in a hand basket
I'm not that sad if it's the motherboard, because I got it cheap and it was just a stopgap with its weird form factor. Today I finally found a reasonably priced dual CPU board for it so I can put it back into the dual CPU system it came out of that had one of the sockets go bad in. It's just inconve...

Re: To Hell in a hand basket
Well, that's better than what just happened to me. 12C/24T Xeon system with a 1070ti just went tits up. No response at all, no beeps, nothing. Stripped to a minimal config with the onboard VGA, still nothing. She's dead, Jim.

I live about a half hour west of Twin Falls, Idaho. The Perrine Bridge over the Snake River is pretty famous amongst BASE jumpers as it's one of the few structures that's legal to jump from.

Perhaps the risks and uncertainties inherent in the method is why I'd not heard of it before, after several years of crunching?

I use psensor, which is I guess a bit clunky, but it can generate a real-time graph of GPU usage.

Re: Amicable numbers, 10*21, GPU
I remember being pretty shocked at the new RAM requirement, one of my headless machines had only 8GB and running Amicable would cause it to become unresponsive. Took me a while to figure out what the problem was!

I'm ramping down participation in F@H, if I see an Nvidia GPU idle, it's getting switched to GPUGrid.

Re: COVID-19 Folding Race
Re the domain decomposition failures, I've seen the client automatically reconfigure thread count downward. My one attempt at over-subscribing (to hopefully land closer to full utilization) on a GPU-less machine was blocked by the client. Maybe that behavior could be tweaked in a config file, but it...

Re: COVID-19 Folding Race
14550 is the only problematic WU that I have seen, but it's a full time job to eliminate them. Stopping the receipt of all beta work would seem to be the only solution at the moment. Edit 1: It sure would be nice to be able to exclude 14550 from running on my clients. I don't see a way to do that wi...

Re: COVID-19 Folding Race
Unfortunately, it seems like the CPU WUs for COVID-19, like 14550, yield extremely poor credit. So, I'm am going to leave them to those who only care about the science.
