I'm probably going to run it at least until I get to a million points and/or the start of the next PG challenge.

Re: Cable modem woes
Dealing with an ISP is tedious but maybe less so than dealing with unreliable internet. I think I would also ask the provider to replace the modem, or even just buy my own to avoid that hassle, if they allow you to.

I didn't think about the redundant PSU's load balancing. The low ball offer was $550. I don't know that I think those machines are worth more than maybe $750 personally.

Re: eBay: 1U GPU server setups
I just meant the power supply in the unit is rated at 1000 watts at 120v, 1600 watts at 240v. If the P100 shows 175 w in Nvidia-smi or other monitoring tools it's likely that it's drawing more than that. I don't have a P100 but that has been my experience with other cards at least. It probably would...

Re: eBay: 1U GPU server setups
Might cut it a bit close on power too if plugged into a standard outlet. It's 1000 watts plugged into a normal outlet, 1600 watts on a 240v outlet. 3 video cards plus 56 Xeon cores crunching could be close to 1000 watts.

Re: EPYC 7551P 8-GPU Setup
The problem with that breakout board is that the 8 pin EPS connector is just jumpered off the main ATX connector. I wouldn't risk it on anything other than a super low power usage CPU like a Pentium dual core or something. This image shows it clearly- https://www.parallelminer.com/wp-content/uploads...

Re: Installing AMD drivers on Linux
I've tried it a couple times and failed. So I will be watching this thread. Same. I'm pretty sure biodoc had posted about getting the AMD drivers working in Linux at one point. I gave up with it with the Firepros a couple years ago and just switched to Windows, but I would have preferred Linux. Sam...

Re: big coolers
Since you have a dedicated space for your hardware now why not just stack 3 or 4 20" box fans on top of one another and attach them to the side/front/rear or whatever of whatever shelf you're using to hold all the equipment? I may do something like that at some point but I do still have some m...

Re: big coolers
Then again, any SP4 based computer would still need comparably high airflow for the VRMs. Watercooling, with a waterblock mounted onto the VRM section (though still with fans to provide some airflow for the RAM areas) might be a better choice for such a project after all. What would be your recomme...

Re: Help/Advice Finding Specialized PC
There are a lot of PC's in the NUC type form factor on Amazon that might work. Something like this - https://www.amazon.com/Beelink-Windows-Computer-Three-Screen-Supports/dp/B09J2MDZ9F The problem though is touchscreen prices currently are super high. Elo screens are back ordered for months and pret...

Re: FAH challenge thread 2022: TAAT vs [H]
It ended up being really close last year by doing sign ups for TAAT vs their whole output, but I'm not sure how things have changed on their side since then either positive or negative. I'm in favor of continuing it as an annual challenge. As far as output goes, I would probably just ask [H] what th...

Re: My first epyc build
I appreciate the information. I should have a fairly recent bios on the 2P EPYC, but it's running an AsRock Rack ROME2D16-2T motherboard. I pulled the location for the bifurcation settings on a Supermicro motherboard from an older Haswell Xeon motherboard I have. I don't plan on running any GPU's in...

pututu if you happen to need to reboot at some point(don't need to do it just for this) can you check the bios and see if it shows bifurcation as an option? Re: My first epyc build
Nice build! I agree on the IPMI/iKVM - it's 100% game changing. I would have used workstation or server boards that had it for every machine I've put together if I realized just how useful it was. All the other parts are more or less what I would have used if I were setting this machine up. I have a...

Are you good with using VGA for the monitor or it needs to be HDMI/displayport/etc.? That ones that are VGA are pretty inexpensive. I've used the Iogear and Rosewill inexpensive VGA KVM's before and they work well enough. Every KVM I've used though has been at least somewhat occasionally flaky. I ha...

If they have an immediate use for them it is probably better to sell to them. I scoured eBay earlier today for a decent price on a dual socket motherboard and was coming up fairly empty. I tried to do a make an offer and buy several at once to get the price down but the seller barely budged. If I we...

Re: Cheap EPYC Rome 7742 and 7402 for sale.
It's about as generic as they come. Cheapest Coolermaster case that supported EEB motherboards. No video card. Superflower 850w power supply. Noctua Heatsink/fans. Cheap SK Hynix NVMe 1TB SSD. Crappy cheap 120mm fans propped up wherever to keep the VRM's with air flowing over them. That's the last s...

I'll probably try to refine this setup a bit. I just threw a couple random extra 120mm fans I had sitting around, and don't even currently have them cable tied or anything they're just sitting in there. I can't get over how great being able to access the BMC is. Any time anybody posted PPT figures h...

I will definitely read through that - thanks! I posted this other places in the forum, but in case you hadn't read those - I initially thought either the processor or motherboard might have an issue since it would always error on Ram slot B1. I was going to flip flop the processors to determine if i...

Re: Cheap EPYC Rome 7742 and 7402 for sale.
I went with DDR4-3200 for Epyc Rome myself, i.e. the top possible speed, but merely out of principle, not based on particular performance measurements. Do you think it's likely DDR4-2400 would be a bottleneck for this build? My thought process being that with 8 channel memory the memory speed shoul...

The seller had posted 'I guarantee everything works for two weeks after you receive it to give you time to set it up and test.' and had also reiterated that via PM, so if they do not function in my motherboard I think he would probably let me send them back for a refund. Wow, Ice! Nice score! Thanks! I guess now I need to figure out what to do with them. StefanR5R any suggestions?
