Re: Cable modem woes

Perhaps simply asking for a simple exchange of modems wouldn't be so tedious, and might help.

Re: eBay: 1U GPU server setups

Yeah 2U fans are 80mm, the ones I have dealt with are much quieter, the little 40mm wind tunnels are crazy loud imo.

Not sure, but I would gravitate to taller servers because I think they will likely be quieter.

Here's a 2U with a more sane pricetag, no RAM though.

I think it could exceed 1000W for sure if the CPUs anf GPUs were crunching simultaneously.

Over a grand though, hmm. Seems like you could piece something together for less, but there is something to be said for an integrated system.

Round these here parts, "boink" was slang for sexual relations. I say BOINC the same way.

I don't have any AMD GPUs to put on Linux atm, but if I did, I'd be looking to do it in Mint. Maybe these directions would work, since Debian begat Ubuntu begat Mint...

Re: big coolers

I have a 140mm fan hanging from a twist tie that cools the VRMs on my water cooled rig. I can't hear it since it is so big and slow. But it's definitely a kludge, a lot uglier and half-assed than most would tolerate.

I have a Dragonfly DAC to a 1/8" headphone to RCA cable that runs to a Yamaha amp and some big modded Sony speakers. Not super serious but decent. So all that is needed is a USB-A port.

Have any of you used a Thinkpad docking station? I wonder if one could be screwed to the wall. Might not be sturdy enough.

I wouldn't mind a NUC if there was a way to attach it to the wall. And yeah, the lack of VESA mounts on modern AIOs is a real drag and part of the reason I posted this. That last thing you posted would work, it just seems like they are a little proud of it, being that it is a Haswell!

Help/Advice Finding Specialized PC

I have a somewhat specialized application that I need help with. What's needed is a PC that can mount to a wall with minimal clearance. Space is tight so a touchscreen-only experience would be best. Apps would include a time tracking app like Clockify, high quality music playback via Pandora etc, an...
