Re: Cost of building the site.
Bearing in mind this is a public portion of the forum, can you post an update on expenses so far vs donations? I know there's been a ton of server upgrades needing to happen and paying for development and stuff, so I figured it was a good time to see where you're at as far needing donations, etc.

Might be worth redacting your email @kiska unless it's one you're not concerned about. This is a public section of the message board so you might get web crawlers grabbing your email for spam purposes.

Re: My new (to me) Plex Media Server build
Could always add something like this to get extra air blowing on the power delivery  computer-fan.jpg It looks like a pretty sweet build, though, and I would imagine chews through Plex transcode workloads really well. I would maybe try to hang a couple fans with cable ties pointed at the power ...

Re: Pfizer/BioNtech covid-19 vaccine looks encouraging
They had to offer a million dollar lottery just to try to get people to get vaccinated. Is it working? Seems like it. I looked up some numbers and this was the headline on one of the news articles - Ohio sees COVID vaccination rate soar 45% since announcing Vax-A-Million lottery . There's definitel...

Re: Pfizer/BioNtech covid-19 vaccine looks encouraging
There's a lot of anti-vax misinformation going around my state as well as a lot of people apathetic about getting the vaccine even if they're not actually anti vax. They had to offer a million dollar lottery just to try to get people to get vaccinated.

Re: 3-2021 Big Core Options under $2,000.
My primary concern has been in points per watt given that I have a limited amount of solar power and electricity past that is 17.7 cents kw/h. I haven’t moved up to any true server grade components, and It’s pretty tough to beat the 5950x in eco mode on points per watt. I really want to see the new...

Re: Weird issue with hard drive
I would recommend storing any Linux distros you're seeding on a separate drive or drives than what is being accessed through your plex library. It's probably not your issue but once your have a lot of Linux isos being accessed at the same time as well as trying to act as a file server for plex it's ...

I've transitioned almost all of my PC's to Noctua for their CPU heatsink/fan. I still have a lot of less expensive case fans, though. I'm not generally super concerned about how loud my PC's are, but I put a few PC's in my bedroom where I would definitely notice if they're loud, and they've been an ...

Re: big coolers
Most of their development seems to be on visual changes to the color of fans and CPU coolers and stuff. I do have one 'Chromax black' NH-D15, and it doesn't seem to cool any better than the original ones that are silver with brown and beige fans. I only purchased it because at the time it was cheape...

Interesting, I didn't know the fans were that bad. Maybe in 6 months if they start to fail it'll be a good time to buy another Pi and put them all in a 4x Pi case like this one - https://www.amazon.com/GeeekPi-Raspberr ... B083FDHPBH

I have 3 of these kits and bought them from this seller - https://hardforum.com/threads/fs-raspberry-pi-4-4gb-kit-s.2007467/#post-1044993430 It took awhile to get, but it was when the US had real bad weather, so I don't fault the seller and once I got them they were as described. Are there ongoing development costs anticipated if features need added or parameters changed in how the competition works, or you're expecting to be able to control anything needing changed from whatever admin portal you'll have available?
I can throw in some money as well.

4 x Raspberry Pi Cluster on Hardforum
There's a 4 x Raspberry Pi cluster that is setup to be POE and has a POE switch on Hardforum for $550 if anybody is interested. I made an offer of $400 but it was too low. It's a pretty sweet setup though - https://hardforum.com/threads/fs-4x-rpi4-cluster-kit-with-poe-switch.2009445/ endgame124 any ...

Re: Pfizer/BioNtech covid-19 vaccine looks encouraging
I was able to get my first shot of the Pfizer vaccine on Tuesday of this week. I wasn't in an age bracket or have health issues that would have gotten early access to the vaccine, but my state opened it up for everybody and I was able to get right in by scheduling in a far away rural area. As far as...

Re: b-games.org
The sport events idea is good. I looked up a few online sports calendars, and if you include international sports, and things like golf, bowling, wrestling(not WWE), tennis, you can basically choose any date you want almost and there will be events on close to that day. My other suggestion, and this...

I was thinking. Let teams choose which "league" (any ideas on what to call each besides league?) They want. To help keep the powerful teams from dominating a lower tiered league I intend to have stats similar to how SG does the Pent with hourly update totals, -12H, -24H, etc... For the bi...

The first season would be difficult to decide leagues. It's definitely not as simple as looking at FB output since a lot of teams don't participate. Based on the FB ranking Seti Germany for example was position 9 overall last year, but they certainly have the output to place much higher if they care...

Locks only "keep honest people honest", as would the code of conduct if you decide to put it in. I think more than anything it would separate the wheat from the chaff a bit, and at least give people a concise list of things that if they violate they know they're breaking the rules. A code ...

I have had good luck with CPUs, but not perfect luck. I've had quite a few Haswell Xeons get to me with at least one memory channel bad. Looking at prices, performance, and power use, according to my little spreadsheet, the best bang for the buck is simply the 3700X right now. All the Zen3's and Ze...

Re: 3-2021 Big Core Options under $2,000.
Fwiw I've never had an issue with a used CPU I've bought and over the years I've probably bought 50-100 used CPU's. I've bought them from Anandtech FS/T, Hardforum, eBay etc. It's pretty hard to cause noticable degradation on CPU's and I don't overclock anything I use for DC projects.

Re: Remote access of networked machines
There's definitely something more to it than what I've figured out so far since it only affects some machines. The performance with Teamviewer in Windows isn't too bad for me without the HDMI dummy plugs, but it won't let me change the screen resolution unless a monitor was connected during boot or ...

I'm not sure if these are the exact ones I purchased, but it's what I'm talking about. It doesn't seem to affect all machines, but especially ones that are Intel onboard video with no other video card run absolutely awful through Teamviewer if they are not booted up with a monitor attached. Like un...
