Re: big coolers

When I ran my 4P builds, I had the motherboard sitting on hard surfaces with blocks keeping it raised up slightly (about half the height of a 120mm fan) and then I'd set 2 or 3 120mm fans on one side blowing across the motherboard with the fans placed in the most strategic location to cover everythi...

Re: big coolers

Since you have a dedicated space for your hardware now why not just stack 3 or 4 20" box fans on top of one another and attach them to the side/front/rear or whatever of whatever shelf you're using to hold all the equipment?

Yes I noticed some of them after I set them up. Didn't have a backup plan or know what to do to change it so I left it as is.

Highly unlikely boincgames will be used by many for the first couple years anyway. For example it took many years before FB took off.

Re: Help/Advice Finding Specialized PC

I have a couple Raspberry Pis here, but I have no idea on how to tell if they're high quality sound or not. I listen to Pandora (used to at least) and iHeartRadio through my phone speakers, bluetooth speakers and my Jeeps speakers. They all sound the same to me, except the external speakers are loud...

Re: Help/Advice Finding Specialized PC

This popped up on my Amazon "you might be interested in" stuff.

https://www.amazon.com/SmartiPi-Touch-O ... B07WXK38YM

So you can easily just drill this to the surface of the wall with the pi and touch screen. Then just run power to it.

Re: Help/Advice Finding Specialized PC

Kind of sounds like you just need to mount a tablet to the wall. They make all sorts of tablet mounts for mounting them to walls you can try. Not sure which eco system you prefer whether it's Windows, Android or Apple. If a tablet is out the question because you want something a little more customiz...

Re: FAH challenge thread 2022: TAAT vs [H]

Yeah, I'm not sure how big of a difference there was between TAAT's overall output and [H]s overall output last year, but id doesn't seem like TAAT was doing on average 4x as much as [H] was last year. I thought it was closer to 2x? Either way, I got a LOT more GPUs to add to the mix this year, for ...

Re: FAH challenge thread 2022: TAAT vs [H]

I am down for it, but I got a feeling this wont be an [H] vs TAAT race. They should have joined us for the December race. Our total output currently is around 400M PPD on average compared to their 100M. Even if we only do sign ups for TAAT vs the whole output of [H] it wouldn't even be close, unless...

Re: [Milkyway@home] Server Outages

I really wish they wouldn't limit the amount of tasks a single host can download at once. Fast GPUs can burn through them so fast that downtime like this means you're missing out on a lot. and when you're depending on these 280X to keep your apartment warm during the Winter (like now) it really noti...

The dates show Jan 17th through Jan 30th, 2022. So I'll do

Jan 27th, 28th, 29th and end on the 30th.

That's 4 days. Just need to set a time on the 27th to start it.

Yes, they will need to support HDMI or Display Port as they'll be 1080P and on modern GPUs that do not have VGA (without an adapter). I looked around and they seem to be around $80 to $150 for a 4-port KVM. I just don't know if the $150 is worth it over the $80 one. It does seems that the more expen...

You can force it to run 1 task per GPU. I'm in bed right now, or I'd go search for it.

@pututu and the other [H] members know it, as that's where I learned it.

If 4 of them can do what a single 280X can (at a 280X full power) then I'll take them without a doubt. I get tired of restarting the computer(s) the 280x are in because they get stuck in a low power state and only produce a 2/3 of what they're capable of until I restart the computer.

I also looked for rackmount cases but never found one which isn't very deep but, importantly, is high enough to fit the 140/150mm class tower coolers. They used to make some cheap 4U cases that you could use the server boards in. Then just take a dremel (or whatever similar tool they have in German...

If it's vendor locked then you can only use a vendor (Dell) branded Motherboard with them and even then, they might not work. So essentially you'll have a $1000 (or however much they cost) paperweight.

Re: Cheap EPYC Rome 7742 and 7402 for sale.

One benefit to building two separate setups instead of 2 CPUs on one is more PCI-e lanes for GPUs when using two separate systems. Since 1 CPU should be enough to handle the PCIe lanes for maximum GPUs, adding a second CPU to the same system wont give you more GPU slots.
