[DENIS Project] Public Database of Electrophysiological Markers Variability in Cardiac Models

Abstract: The main objective of this project is the creation of a public database with the result of physiological markers under different conditions in published  electrophysiological models. The models are simulated under variations of their main parameters to study how each parameter affects to the value of the markers and how they affect together. App in DENIS: DENIS Stable version used to fill the Markers Database Description Electrophysiological models published in the literature usually try to represent a “mean” model. The fact is that there is variability between cells of the same animal and between different animals. Recently, many studies try to consider this and they simulate populations of models. They made small variations to some parameters of the model to simulate the natural variability. Each simulation of a model is computationally expensive and normally the simulations of one researcher can’t be used by other researchers. When DENIS is not running specific research projects we use its computational capacity to generate knowledge of the published electrophysiological models. It will permit us:
  • Interpolate the results of other simulations to have a fast and good aproximation to the result of a marker without run the simulation.
  • Reuse the results of populations of models to other studies.
  • Reduce the time spent by researchers by using previously simulated results.
Now this subproject is starting. We will add more models and more physiological markers to the database progressively. We also plan to create a REST service to permit other programs to access the database. Database information Models

Protocols and Physiological Markers
  • Steady State: Models are stimulated during 3000 cycles with different Cycle Length (1000 ms, 2000 ms). For each cycle length, in the last cycle, the following markers are calculated and saved. APD: Action Potential Duration at different percentages of repolarization (90, 75, 50, 25).
  • Systolic and Diastolic: Maximum and minimum value of the ionic concentration in the last cycle.
