What can I do to make this site more useful. I am open to ideas.

Oh, hi! I think it's pretty useful, other than most of the traffic is on Discord. Maybe the best we can do is post more links to here on the Discord and the old Anandtech forum?

Yep, the site died with the introduction of discord. I always thought it odd for the desire for a great BOINC site but to move all the needed content elsewhere.

I've been trying to look into ways to integrate our Discord server with the forums here, but so far I haven't been able to find anything that'll allow that.

I can say though that anything we post on the discord (as far as tutorials/tips/tricks/etc...) we also try to cross post them here as well.

It's just discord is so much better in so many ways. The communication is almost always real time which is a huge plus when asking for help, chatting about whatever, etc...

But the forums/sites can still be useful. I'm just trying to figure out what I can do to make it useful.

I'll address the elephant in the room.

Sooner or later the Anandtech forums will go away.. I can't see them running it for more than maybe a year. It can't be much of a money maker and people will slowly lose interest and move on.
It may be time to think about rebranding. Changing this to a Boinc Games board? Yes I realize that BG has forums but those seem to be even less used. Maybe a consolidation of all the sites into one?
I have yet to find a new tech site that I like. Never really cared for Tom's and their DC community is not very active. FPS has zero for DC interest.
Anyway, if the core team is going to stay together, I feel it is time to make some decisions and make a change.
Finish this year as TAAT and have a new name for the new year? Boinc Games seems to be the logical move.
So that is my 2cents.

Yeah, even if the site/forum does stay up, the membership will gradually drop w/o a front end draw from articles. Either from people actively leaving or attrition. That goes for general forum membership and BOINC participation. I've seen it several times as the front end tech page goes away, so does the FAH/BOINC Team. From Icrontic/Short-Media, PCPer, OCN and now probably here at AnandTech (my home base site over the past 20+ years).

I brought up switching teams but it didn't seem to go too well.

Not entirely true. The owner if the site is in our discord after all.

As for switching teams, creating a new team, etc... I believe the general consensus was to wait till the new year.

Although a plan needs to be drawn out BEFORE the new year so the change can happen at the start of the new year.

As to FPS, their DC forum does not have much activity and I could not find a Boinc team.

Yes, I agree that if there is going to be a change, it needs to be discussed and have ready for the New Year.

I have been on the Anandtech forums forever. If I remember correctly, there were two years on the old forums before the current one. So that's 27 years. Ya, it kinda sucks to have to make a change, but they moved on. I guess I will to. I'd like to see this group stay together, but if not ...???

We need some input from others.

We could turn FPS into a force to be reckoned with if we all agreed to go there...

Yes, FPS doesn't have a BOINC/DC team. Which would make good sense as Crashtech mentioned. We can move our whole team there and give them a team. Schro, who is the owner of the site, I believe would support/back our efforts more so than Anandtech does, especially with front page news/articles about competitions and stuff.

I've been thinking of adding a wiki to the site. Having a wiki page for all projects, with tips/tricks/info about their tasks, work and the like. I just don't have the time to fill it with content.

I'm on board with switching teams or changing names or whatever the consensus is as long as there's at least (roughly) a consensus and most people are doing the same. I just don't want to be a part of a fracture where people go separate directions, I'd prefer to have the team stay relatively intact with whatever move we make. Basically, to sum it up, I don't really care about Anandtech itself or the team name having anything to do with Anandtech but I like the team we have and would move to wherever the members of that team go. I would hate to see it be a total fracture where a few people move one place, others move another, etc. but I'm sure it's inevitable that we'd lose some members whether we make a move or not.

The options from my point of view-

1. We all (or as many as we can get) move the team to somewhere that doesn't have a BOINC team such as the FPS Review. It'd be ideal if we could change our team name to that and keep our existing stats but I think we'd have to have a consensus (vote on the main forum?) to get the TAC to do so.

2. Do nothing, leave the team as is, but like was mentioned it will probably long term result in the team dwindling as the main forum is shut off etc. XS was still a force to be reckoned with even after the main site was basically a desert, but they had a small number of very dedicated members with tons of hardware keeping it going (similar to us, I suppose, in some ways). Long term though I think this option would result in the team fading away over time.

3. Move to another existing BOINC team. GPU Users Group would be the logical choice IMO if we were to do that but I'm sure there are some others that would make sense too. The guys from GPU Users Group are chill and very knowledgeable, have custom software that would be useful, etc. BUT our BOINC goals and competition mindset and stuff don't really line up so there's not a ton of synergy there. Maybe there would be another team that could make sense I'm not sure.

My vote would be for option 1 I think. Option 3 would likely result in a 'super team' type of scenario that most of us weren't big fans of when other teams did and I think overall would be harmful to BOINC competitions as a whole.

I know this post wasn't super helpful or insightful lol but just throwing my thoughts out there.

I agree with that Icecold.

I really, really want us to stick together. I love you guys.

I would rather, personally, start a new team. Doesn't necessarily have to be TheFPSReview, but it does help to have a site like that we can use to get seen by the visitors of sites similar to that when they read hardware/gaming benchmarks and see what we're also doing. Helps a whole lot with recruiting. So I would prefer we go to TheFPSReview, but I am open to scoping out other possibilities.

Don't really want to merge with an existing team, because I think the competition, or lack there of, would be just too easy at that point. I mean we are already a pretty dominating force in the DC competitions.

I too would prefer not to join an existing team.
Either a new name or a tech site that has no real team, except Tom's. The are or were owned by the same company the killed Anandtech, so 💩 on them.
FPS seems new, but has some good reviews. We may be able to help bring awareness to the site and maybe get them to add in a DC benchmark or two as well as all the usual ones. Anandtech was never really receptive to that. A little front page press once in a while would be nice too.
Would be nice to have Ken and Stefans' thoughts.

I've been talking to them about doing BOINC Benchmarks. They have a script that Stef helped me work on so they can do some PG testing on CPUs. Not sure how far along they are with that yet, but it should be coming.

I am more than a little curious about what @StefanR5R wants to do. He has not been very active here at all.
Wish callouts were enabled here, or maybe I'm just doing it wrong.
edit: They're fixed!

Yea I'd like our team to stick together as much as possible too.
I'm still gutted that AT have been shut down :(, I've been reading it from near the start, and have been a forum member for 25 years! So not willing to move on in the near to medium future.
But I guess the membership will slowly shrink over time, although I think the forum will be running on a lot longer than ~1 year.
So for now option 2, with option 1 at a latter point.

I'm not keen on the BOINC Games name though.

What are FPS reviews like? (I'm going to read their 9900X review some point soon).

When I updated the forum to the lastest software a while back it broke a bunch of plugins including the user tag plugin.

I'll check tonight when I get home from work. See if they have an updated, working version I can switch to.
