FS: 2x E5-2678v3
FS: 2x E5-2678v3
Twin Xeons fresh out of one of my DC rigs. Too lazy to take photos. The tops of the HSFs are marred by whoever had them before me, but they work.

Bump... oh wait, I was still at the top.

Re: FS: 2x E5-2678v3
Do you still have these? It just occurred to me that this might be a modest upgrade to my E5-1650 v4.
Significantly slower cores, but twice as many of them.
The big question is if they are compatible with the motherboard in my Dell Precision T5810 computer that is currently running the E5-1650 v4 CPU. As far as I can tell, they use the same FCLGA2011-3 socket, but I'm having trouble finding any definite info about BIOS compatibility on those computers...

Re: FS: 2x E5-2678v3
I have them, but I don't know if they will work in a Dell. I guess I could send them if you want to try them. Maybe if they don't work you could send them to @Icecold, he expressed a passing interest in having them if no one else picked them up.
Re: FS: 2x E5-2678v3
Do you happen to know what model of motherboard these were successfully running in @crashtech ?
Re: FS: 2x E5-2678v3
I've run them in an ASUS Z10PC-D8/SAS and a Supermicro X10DRL-i. I'm confident that they should work in pretty much any aftermarket 2011-3 board, since the 2680v3 on which the 2678v3 is based had BIOS support from day one afaik. I'm not even sure if there is any difference at all from the 2680v3, they have the same base frequency, Turbo map and TDP.
Re: FS: 2x E5-2678v3
This guy was selling these without a processor or RAM for like $170 maybe 6 months ago, but I made the mistake of trying to lowball with 'best offers' to get a better deal - https://www.ebay.com/itm/154585528506?h ... Swh~1hJ~sT I was trying to buy it to consolidate my existing single socket 12 core / 24 thread Xeon processors into one machine, but it would be ideal for these as well.
If a compatible motherboard could be had for something like $170 + $104 gets you 8x4GB ECC DDR4 on eBay(though a decision would have to be made between 32GB total or 64GB total depending on budget) + your processors for $100 + $20 120GB SSD + cheap case + on sale power supply somebody could put together a 48 thread really good crunching machine for under $600.
I'm all on board with Ryzen stuff, but I really do like the extra thread count of the older Haswell Xeon stuff even if it's slower or less efficient than Ryzen. My 56 thread Xeon machines(I have 2 of them) are super easy to bunker on between the high thread count and slower task times, and still just churn out a really good amount of work it seems like.
@Fardringle is your machine single socket?

The Xeons really seem to hold their own in PrimeGrid in particular. I wish I had more space and more capacity because I'd just put these back in service.

Yes, single socket computer and not really conducive to replacing the motherboard due to the layout of the case.

Yes, single socket computer and not really conducive to replacing the motherboard due to the layout of the case. And it already has 64GB of RAM..
I do think I'd like to get one of those CPUs if you're willing to split them up. I actually have two of these computers, but one of them is sometimes used for gaming and other things by my girls, so the faster single core speed of the current CPU is a better option for that machine.
Unless Icecold wants to take both of them, and then I say go for that so they can both be put to good use.

Re: FS: 2x E5-2678v3
I could use one to upgrade a 10c Xeon
Re: FS: 2x E5-2678v3
Well if @Icecold doesn't want them together, I could split them up.
Re: FS: 2x E5-2678v3
If they have an immediate use for them it is probably better to sell to them. I scoured eBay earlier today for a decent price on a dual socket motherboard and was coming up fairly empty. I tried to do a make an offer and buy several at once to get the price down but the seller barely budged. If I were to buy them they would likely sit on a shelf for 3 to 6 months until I can get a good deal on a motherboard
Re: FS: 2x E5-2678v3
Okay @Skillz and @Fardringle, They are yours for the taking, but let me ask $55 each because of the extra postage etc.

Re: FS: 2x E5-2678v3
My Dell Precision T5810 is now running with 24 threads instead of 12! Each thread is slower, but with twice as many it should be about a 33-50% overall upgrade in processing power.
Re: FS: 2x E5-2678v3
Finally got around to installing mine also. Currently running WCG on the CPUs and back to MW@Home on the two 280x GPUs in that rig.
